Evernote has just announced on its blog the launch of the iPad version of Skitch, its incredibly popular image editing and annotating app. Skitch enables you to annotate and draw on pretty much anything that you can display on your iPad screen, such as a photo, a webpage, a screenshot, or even a blank piece of paper. You can then easily share the results with anyone you like, such as friends, family or work colleagues, and you can also save it to Evernote.
The app features a comprehensive selection of drawing and annotating tools, including a finger tool, pencil, arrows, text boxes, shapes, and cropping tools. Evernote says that it also plans an iPhone version of Skitch, but that it decided to launch it on iPad first because ?it?s the ideal form factor for tactile annotation?. Just use it and you?ll be amazed by how much a few simple shapes and arrows can do.?
Already hugely popular on the Mac, this is going to take the iPad by storm!

BBC Worldwide Launches iPlayer App in Canada; US Could Be Next
Good news for those who have been awaiting the launch of the BBC?s iPlayer iOS app, as it has just launched in Canada today, and will hopefully also launch in the US before too long as well. According to the BBC, Canada is the 16th territory to receive the iPlayer in the App Store, as well as the likes of the Australia, Germany and Italy. The global BBC iPlayer App is a unique Video on Demand pilot subscription service for iPad that offers the opportunity to view an extensive archive of award-winning classic and contemporary British TV programming both at home and on the move, including Fawlty Towers, Absolutely Fabulous, Doctor Who and Blue Planet.
Jana Bennett, BBC Worldwide President of Worldwide Networks and Global iPlayer said: "We're proud to be building on the successful launch of this App by introducing it to Canada. It will open up the opportunity for a whole new audience to enjoy the best moments from seventy years of brilliant BBC programmes, wherever and whenever they want." Subscribers will also have access to the BBC?s extensive music archive, including live shows by Oasis, Blue and Dire Straits. Other features will include special themed collections, such as Daleks Forever, which is all about Doctor Who?s Daleks, as you might have guessed.
The player is free to download, but anyone outside of the UK (where the service is free) will have to pay a subscription fee of ?6.99 in Europe, $8.99 in Canada and $9.49 in Australia. Annual subscriptions are also available.

The Guardian Launches iPad App

UK newspaper The Guardian has this week launched its first ever full iPad app. The app, which can be downloaded once a day, will be free to download for an initial three-month trial (thanks to sponsorship from Channel 4), and then after that will cost ?9.99 per month. Alan Rusbridger, the Guardian?s editor-in-chief, said that the app would not differ too much in terms of its presentation from the printed version of the newspaper.
?We wanted it to be like a newspaper, in that it is very respectful of text. It has a hierarchy, like a newspaper front page, and you don?t get lost in it unlike some other iPad apps,? said Rusbridger. When asked why the Guardian?s iPad app had taken so long to come out, in contrast to the Times and Telegraph apps, for example, Rusbridger said that the delay was mainly due to a shortage of developers, and because of the sophisticated nature of the app?s design.

According to the report, it is mainly because as developers iOS tests 5 and iCloud found that having multiple connections Apple ID proves to be a problem. Apparently, users of MobileMe said that having several Apple ID proves be particularly problematic for them, particularly in the use of automatic downloads. MacRumors is a reference to a story on TUAW back in May that made the same question, and at that time, Apple had indicated that it would not be consolidation accounts Apple ID.
