AppleInsider reports today on news from Italian Apple site iSpazio.net, which has discovered that a tweak in iOS 5 that let iPhone and iPad owners use shortcuts to access certain iOS settings, such as Wi-Fi, Airplane Mode, or Bluetooth, has been disabled in the iOS 5.1 beta. The tweak worked by enabling users to use the iOS Safari browser to add a specific web link to their home screen, which could be accessed by tapping the relevant icon, and which would then take you to the required Settings app on your iPhone or iPad. And you didn?t have to even jailbreak your device to use the tweak. AppleInsider notes that it was a popular workaround, as it meant that people could quickly turn their Bluetooth on or off, for example, rather than going through the more longwinded process of accessing Settings>General>Bluetooth. Likewise with the Airplane Mode, another popular shortcut enabled by the tweak. Whether or not this tweak has been permanently disabled, or might be reinstated in the next beta release is not yet known, but for now, if you want to use it, you can?t!
